Our stay here was great, no complaints... house is well furnished and equipped... just bring food and clothes....house is older but NOT dated ... very clean, nice ...

The ease of the rental Process is great!!!
- Linda S. from Mount Holly, Posted: 09/16/2024
Great 4 bedroom 2 bath ocean front with covered porch & rockers, 2 outdoor showers underneath, and a hose for spraying off sand on the private deck through the dunes to the beach. Large open kitchen/ living room area. Only negative issue, which may seem petty, is that every knife in the kitchen was dull. We had to buy some sharp knives the 2nd day just to be able to cut tomatoes & limes without cutting ourselves. Not a big deal but often overlooked by owners. Great week and our second year there.
- Louellen B. from Columbia, Posted: 09/08/2024
We only had one issue with the kitchen light falling and it was fixed immediately. And the service man was really nice and had it fixed in no time. Everything else was just a nice as we remembered it was . Thank you for an enjoyable vacation.

House is clean and in a great location. It shows its age but it’s perfect for a smaller group. Only issue was we didn’t get “house is ready” text until 7pm
- Anonymous from Woodbridge, Posted: 08/18/2024
First off, garden city realty staff are great! Lots of pertinent Debby information and very helpful getting us. House is old but clean and tidy. Had everything we needed. Can be a challenge getting it cool enough upstairs without freezing out the downstairs but we figured it out. Specious kitchen and living area. Very nice and deep porch.
- Kathleen B. from Bloomfield Hills, Posted: 08/11/2024
Although some furniture could be replaced, we always enjoy our week at Jim-Mel-Lou. Can't beat the location
- Anonymous from Sumter, Posted: 07/28/2024
Our family has stayed at the JIMMELLOU for several years and always have a wonderful experience. A few suggestions would be to fix upstairs shower door, downstairs shower head and tub drain and we have noticed floor in upstairs bathroom is spongy in front of sink. This year we noticed some of the wood under walkway has fallen. May want to check on this. Our week was relaxing and are looking forward to returning next year.
- Connie C. from Cades, Posted: 06/16/2024
We had a great stay at the Jim Mel Lou rental house. It is very quiet in the area it is in. There is very few people on the beach when we were there. This made the 3rd year we have stayed there and we plan on staying again next year.
- Linda S. from Mount Holly, Posted: 09/25/2023
Clean, as expected. Note that while the small kids rocker is greatly appreciated, it has an arm that is loose and somewhat unsafe. Also note that the kitchen chairs are weighted such that they fell over when someone got up on several occasions. And adding some rockers up stairs would be nice, its a great spot for beach views.
- Benjamin F. from Centennial, Posted: 06/06/2023
Our family loved our stay at Jim Mel Lou! Such a great house with so much space! Fit our family perfectly We enjoyed every aspect of this home and hope to rent it again in the future!
- Karen D. from Columbia, Posted: 04/26/2023
The house was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, etc.
Bedrooms were large with large closets. Right on the beach with great views. Lower deck was large and great for morning coffee. Our only problem was not being able to connect to the internet when we arrived, this was fixed but it took several hours, and the cable connection to the TV didn't always work, we had to mess with it every time we wanted to watch tv.
- Susan W. from Plainwell, Posted: 04/11/2023
We love this place. It's older, and some would say dated, but comfortable, clean, and roomy. It's very peaceful in that area in October. We mentioned the poor condition of the window blinds last year and sure enough they were all new this year. If anything we would appreciate firmer mattresses on the main floor. The owners obviously care about the home. We are grateful it survived the storm. We hope to stay there again.
MANY THANKS to PAM MCCAULEY at Garden City Realty! She stayed in touch after Hurricane Ian and called us as soon as the house was cleared for rental. This is our third experience with her and we have come to regard her as a friend. It's nice to have a familiar voice and face when it comes time to plan our beach vacation. I am in customer service as well, and people like Pam are the reason you are BEST of The Beach.

Very satisfied with this rental property in every way. Clean inside and out. Wonderful beach access.
- Carol S. from Arcade, Posted: 10/10/2022
A vey nice, clean, quiet house on ocean front. It has a nice covered porch with rockers and picnic table where you can see and hear the ocean. We have stayed there twice and plan on staying again next year.
- Linda S. from Mount Holly, Posted: 10/08/2022
This was our first time to Myrtle Beach and the Garden City Realty, Inc was so helpful. The house was gorgeous, especially the view. Thank you to everyone who helped make our trip so enjoyable.
- Amber H. from Ephrata, Posted: 06/06/2022
Lovely views of ocean from some bedrooms and living area. Good size bedrooms, small bathrooms. Only real complaint - beds pretty uncomfortable -hard outer rim on mattresses w/very oft middle. Very basic but adequate house
- Gertrude W. from Winston Salem, Posted: 03/14/2022
House was clean upon arrival. Linens being part of the package was a huge plus! Not having to pack linens saves lots of room. Bathroom updates would be a plus with a walk in shower instead of having to step over into tubs with shower doors. Overall a great time with family. A stick vacuum would also be a plus - broom was available but it’s hard to keep sand swept up - much easier to vacuum. I also had to ask for a mop as we had little people with us, however Garden City Realty was quick to respond the two times I called them. Great realty company!

Garden city realty was great to work with from start to finish. The home was a bit dated but overall a wonderful property.
- MELISSA B. from CLEMMONS, Posted: 09/20/2021
We had a great time staying at this house. We have stayed a few others but this is our favorite. It is close to everything but far enough away that it is very quiet and not very crowded on the beach. The staff at Garden City Realty was very courteous and helpful.
- Linda S. from Mount Holly, Posted: 09/13/2021
House was clean, everything was as expected, open floor plan, great views from entire living area as well as three of the four bedrooms, very nice large covered porch. Very happy with our stay :)

October finds my siblings, our spouses and I at the beach for a week. Time to regroup, rest, and reminisce about our childhood, life now, and Grandchildren. Our parents introduced the love of the surf to us as children, and when they were here with us we hauled them along with us. They have since passed and we have and will continue this tradition. It’s always a happy week with lots of love and laughter! We look forward to it every year. The mattresses definitely need to be replaced. We were all stiff by end of week from what is on the beds now. Loved everything else about the house. We stayed there in 2006. The kitchen was much better stocked then, anything you wanted to cook the appliances and cookware were there to do it with. That has depleted somewhat now - but we made it through the week easily. Cooked in all week to keep from being out and about in what I pray is an end of the Covid-19 pandemic. New mattresses would make this place just perfect. I hope to see that update next years property description!

The lady I talked to before we came it was a peaceful vacation we stayed at the house instead of running around. And we saw things we never saw before. We had a fox come thru the yard. And we saw so many starfish. One l
Even swam right into my granddaughters hand. It sat there for a moment and swam away

Garden City Realty is the ONLY company to find your rental! We have rented from them about 12 or 13 times now. Every single person I've ever spoken to there is so sweet, helpful and makes you feel as if they truly want you to enjoy your stay. The house was completely spotless and well maintained. Could use new mattresses and new living room furniture. None of the chairs in the living room were usable because the springs were so worn out. The mattresses weren't very comfortable for the same reason. However the house itself was nice. Well stocked as far as kitchen appliances, utensils and dinner and glassware. Nice location. LOVED the covered back porch and the synthetic wood walkway (no spinters). We will definitely return and use Garden City Realty. I do wish I had know there was public beach access right beside the house with public parking. It made for a lot of people coming and going right beside the house all day. But not a huge problem. I just probably wouldn't have chosen that particular house had I known there was public parking right next door. At times it felt like we were in the movie Summer Rental. Lol
- Carolyn R. from Searcy, Posted: 10/05/2020
it is an outstanting place.
- Wendell/Alma M. from Sumter, Posted: 08/20/2020
Jim Mel Lou met every expectation for our family! Perfect location, clean and family friendly! Our kids loved the covered deck as well!! Can’t wait to stay here again next summer!
- Michael K. from Springdale, Posted: 07/20/2020
Location was amazing. House is dated which is ok. However cleanliness of furniture and carpet were not clean. Especially after not being changed for 29 years. Less than comfortable beds also. The location and functionality made up for this however, will have seriously consider coming back. Also had a late check in for repairs.
- Travis S. from Inman, Posted: 06/26/2020
JimMelLou is a very dated and basic house but that also helps make it a fantastic value. There's a ton of parking room and space inside. Location is great and the house is very functional. Private beach access is great but there's also a public access directly adjacent with a ramp for your wagon. Although dated, the house is good condition and clean. Some things we ran into that were minor maintenance issues you may run into. The outdoor showers need pull handles, the originals rusted off. The light over the card table has a sketchy plug. HVAC vents could use cleaning. Kitchen floor has a raised joint ready to peel. Fridge handle was duct taped. The only thing that gives pause for staying here a third year is the beds. All of them are downright awful. They're just uncomfortable and tough to get a good night's sleep on.
- Michael S. from Valley Falls, Posted: 09/09/2019
We had a great time again this year at Jim Mel Lou! We had 8 adults, 3 kids and an infant and there was plenty of room for all. The property is not highly updated, but it is comfortable and we had everything we needed. it is beachfront, so the walk is short and easy. Garden City is such a great family beach! The beach is not too crowded and the pier and arcade are great family fun. Go to Neal and Pam's in Surfside on Monday night for Trivia and the Conch Cafe is good food on the beach!
- Anonymous from Columbia, Posted: 07/08/2019
For the past 8-9 years my family has enjoyed staying at the Jim Mel Lou. It meets all of our needs. Great location.
- Connie C. from Cades, Posted: 06/29/2019
Overall the stay was very nice and peaceful! However, the fan over the stove threw out black burnt items when turned on and this was never fixed while we were there. Also, the rocking chairs were rotted on the top deck. These were never replaced either. TV's were in rooms upstairs but none in downstairs bedrooms. Very roomy and plenty of room to park! We would stay here again!

Property is just as it looks in the pictures. Everything is nice and it is an easy walk to the beach. We had a great time there and are going back to the same house next year. This was our 3rd year dealing with GCR and they are always great to work with. Suggestions for the owners: Needs - can opener, scissors, steak knives and some sharp knives. An outside grill would be great. We love your property! Thanks for letting us stay.
- Anonymous from Columbia, Posted: 07/09/2018
My family have been coming to the Jim Mel Lou for years now and have thoroughly enjoyed out stay each year
- Connie C. from Cades, Posted: 07/03/2018
This was the second time we have stayed at this house. It is an excellent location and great location. The outside showers and foot wash make it very easy to clean up. This is becoming our goto house for MB trips.

Great location
- Anonymous from St. Albans, Posted: 09/25/2017
It was a nice house it had a few things that could have used a little repairing. But overall we had a nice time. The only real complaint I had wasn;t even about this house. Across the street for some reason the realty company who had it felt the need to mow at 7:15 in the morning. I think it could have waited a little longer people are there on vacation. I am pretty sure the company was Dune realty

This was our first time staying in Garden City beach.. my son was getting married close by and Jim Mel Lou was perfect for us. There is plenty of room and the porch was wonderful . We loved the big kitchen and open floor plan . We did have an issue with the upstairs shower but it was fixed quickly.

We loved our week at Jim Mel Lou! We wish the cottage had a grill. It would be a great idea to have a dividing fence to keep the the public walkway completely separate.

We loved JimMelLou! It was spacious and a great location.
- Anonymous from Springfield, Posted: 09/15/2015
Enjoyed our stay. Property didn't seem as clean as it has been in the past. Sand still on floor and mildew in bathrooms, but otherwise fine.
- Connie C. from Cades, Posted: 07/20/2015
We enjoyed the location and value of this ocean front rental. Very spacious with an open layout. Recommendations would be that the mattresses need to be updated they were very uncomfortable.
- TARA M. from HARDY, Posted: 07/06/2015
We enjoyed our week at the beach immensely. The temperature was low 80's and got in lots of beach time.
- Anonymous from Kingsport, Posted: 06/08/2015
The location was clean and ready for us upon arrival...helpful staff made it easy to feel right at home. Great location
- Anonymous from St Ann, Posted: 06/09/2014
This is a wonderful home in great condition in a wonderful location. There only complaint I have with the property is a few blinds can't be adjusted because the rod has broken off.
The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glasswear, and the appliances all work.
- Douglas M. from Roanoke, Posted: 05/05/2014
The house was dirty. The fridge didn't appear to have been cleaned. The air vents were dirt filled. The floors had not been swept clean of sand. To beat it all, a light globe fell off and hit my 84-yr-old mother-in-law in the head. The management did not even check up later to see if she was okay after they were told.
- Anonymous from Knoxville, Posted: 09/23/2013
We enjoyed our week at this rental. The downstairs was spacious and comfy. Enjoyed the covered porch and the 6 rockers and picnic table. Loved the gate on the porch as we have little ones. Our only complaint was the public access right beside the house as we had people parking in our rental property and using the outside showers under the house. A suggestion may be a fence along the public access side to deter people from coming over.Otherwise our week was very enjoyable.
- Anonymous from Kossuth, Posted: 08/05/2013
I've stayed at Garden City Beach for over 35 years in many different houses. Jim Mel Lou is dated but I actually liked the property overall. It reminded me of the beach when I was a kid. The updates on the decking and the fresh paint on the outside looked great. I would recommend a couple of things: Please invest in some new, more comfortable mattresses for every bedroom. It's not critical but maybe you could put in a disposal as well. I cleaned the windows for you so the ocean view was outstanding. We enjoyed the week. See you next year!
- Chad H. from Dacula, Posted: 06/25/2013
Had a wonderful week. Hope to come back.
- Connie C. from Cades, Posted: 06/17/2013
Jimmellou was a great location, we enjoyed our stay, we would like to visit again when the weather is warmer.
- Anonymous from Port Richey, Posted: 03/25/2013
It was a nice place, but there were a few things missing. There was no can opener, the revolving plate in the microwave was not the correct size and the coffee pot lid was slightly broken. Except for those "minor" inconveniences, it was great! The big, open living area was wonderful for me to interact with guests while I was cooking!
- Linda B. from Conway, Posted: 01/02/2013
Great space and location
- Anonymous from East Bernstadt, Posted: 10/22/2012
We normally stay in a property that's priced a little higher but whose porch is too small to enjoy. We tried this property most because of the great open porch with rocking chairs. This is the best part of this home along with the great new decking used for the walkway to the beach! You'll need to keep your shoes on in the showers under the house, but the extra hot and cold showers worked great when we are trying to get ready at the same time. The property DOES NOT have Wi-Fi as advertised and there is only one TV - we were not happy with this.
- Candace L. from Hiawassee, Posted: 10/08/2012
UPDATE-This home now has Wi-fi as of April 2013. Thank you.
- Garden City Realty staff
We had a wonderfull time with our family at your place! We will be back!
- Shirley D. from Massillon, Posted: 10/01/2012
This home although dated was a perfect fit for our family. My children were upset there was only one TV, but it allowed us to have more family time together in the evenings either watching a program together or playing card games. The living area is very spacious and open so whether you are cooking, eating, or doing a puzzle everyone is together! We brought 3 teenagers and two 20 year olds so the bedrooms on two floors worked well. We utilized the covered rear deck every evening and the beach area was never crowded. We did need to purchase an internet card for access, but that is the only negative we can offer.
- Stace T. from Roanoke, Posted: 09/06/2012
My family had a very enjoyable at Jim Mel Lou. It was a really great price for an oceanfront house, but the house really needs some TLC! Things that could be easily replaced have been neglected and detract from the overall experience. Moldy caulking on tubs, rusted out vents and lights, very worn out furniture, including tears is fabric and linoleum bubbling up on the floor are a few of those detractions. The location is fantastic and my kids had a wonderful week at the house and the beach. We will have very fond memories of our vacation, but I hope some improvements are made to the general upkeep of the home.
- Jan C. from Nolensville, Posted: 09/03/2012
Not a fancy place, but the view, ocean/beach right outside the door, big rooms, porch, always plenty of hot water, well supplied kitchen made this a relaxing, fun vacation for our family. Close to Wal-Mart, grocery stores, Krispy Kreme, and restaurants. Just the right distance from the Garden City pier.
- Anonymous from Indian Trail, Posted: 08/07/2012
WE HAVE RENTED THIS PROPERTY FOR 11 CONSECUTIVE YRS AND THE ONLY COMPLAINT WE HAVE IS THE LAWN AREA AT THE BACK OF THE HOUSE IS COVERED WITH SAND SPURS NOT A GOOD PLAY AREA FOR THE CHILDREN. iT WOULD BE NICE IF THE AREA COULD BE RE-SODDED!
- John D. from Lexington, Posted: 07/16/2012
It was a wonderful house and a wonderful location. I fulfilled my dream of renting a beachside home in the area. I would come back in an instant!!!!!
- Sandra L. from Claremont, Posted: 04/30/2012
This was the 12th year we've stayed at the Jim, Mel, Lou and we will be back. The house isn't fancy, but very comfortable with a wonderful beach location and plenty of room to enjoy our Garden City vacation.
- Mike B. from Dallas, Posted: 10/03/2011
We really like the location. As always its quiet way south of the pier. Our only problem with the property was not enough TV's and there was alot of dust on the furniture in the bedrooms. Also sand on the floors in the two bedrooms down stairs. I mention this because my sister has allergies. Other than that the property had a well equiped kitchen. We cook alot. All and all we had a great vacation. Thank you Garden City Realty. We will be back next year!
- Joan W. from Wellington, Posted: 09/27/2011
Don't expect too much from the house. The furniture and appliances are older, but you can't beat the price for a house right on the beach. We would stay here again.
- Ray O. from Hickory, Posted: 09/26/2011
Great location, great porch, the living room/dining room/ and kitchen space are very large and great for bigger families. we had a great time very few complaints. some aspects of the home are outdated but it give it more of a myrtle beach vacation feel!
- Anonymous from Pittsburgh, Posted: 08/08/2011
The house could use new beds and more than one TV!
