OK starting with the pros: the hardwood floors throughout were beautiful. This house is a short walk to the entrance of the pier. The living room doors are huge and open to a deck with 4 rocking chairs and two small tables. We were able to fit four cars under the house and there's a public access right next door; if guests need to move to allow others to leave it is convenient. The living room has plenty of seating with two couches, could maybe use one or two additional chairs. Loved the fact that each of the main bedrooms had their own bathroom. The little Garden City amenity kits were a nice touch, and the laundry machines and dryer were efficient.
Some of the cons: The layout is such though that only one couple will get the grand view of the ocean, the other two bedrooms are pretty tucked away and then the bunk rooms face the road. There were no coat hangers in the primary bedroom closet. You have to make your own bed on arrival – they bag up all the towel sets and all the sheets sets up in plastic and it's kind of a surprise whether or not you get a fresh smelling set of sheets...I had to open various sets from other unoccupied beds before finding some that didn't smell like too badly like old linen that’s been sitting in a closet. Neither the top primary bedroom that faces the ocean nor the living room has curtains so during certain hours of the day the sun just sears inside and there's nowhere to hide- it is BRIGHT. Also sadly, I primarily rented this house because I saw the amazing table with so much seating. We rented over Thanksgiving so we're planning a full-on cooking event for at least a few of the days. The kitchen was laughably stocked – better suited for a frat boy party than a family vacay. No cutting board, only a couple of dull knives, about 10 small pots and no big ones. No frying pan. No roasting pans, no serving bowls. The kitchen had around 100 plates (why?) but barely any cooking implements you would need for a family

Our family stayed at Against the Wind B for a week. It is the perfect spot- it is with in walking distance of everything. We enjoyed swimming, surfing and playing on the beach with the grandkids. The pier is next door and we spent lots of time there fishing and enjoying the live bands. The house was perfect except for the pull out couches- I wouldn’t recommend that you use them - the mattresses on the couches were sandy and stained.

We had an amazing week. Love the location. House provided everything we needed. 4th year in the house and plan to return next year.

We’ve stayed in both sides of this house several times and will definitely rent again, BUT.....this year several basic maintenance issues caused some frustration that can easily be fixed. 1. The kitchen is no longer well stocked with basic supplies. 2. The internet was randomly intermittent in maintaining a connection. 3. The sink drains were slow. 4. The sliding door did not open/close smoothly. 5. The vegetation is taking over the driveway which makes getting in/ out of vehicles difficult along with loading/unloading our luggage. Theses are all simple fixes, and overall did not diminish all the wonderfulness of the house layout, price, and location. We will definitely be back!!

Stayed here several times. Walking distance to everything in Garden City especially Sam Corner and The Pier. Very convenient location. You can seat on the porch at night and listen to the band on the pier. Excellent beach.

House is in a great location and decorated nicely. It does needs a good detailed cleaning, too much dirt/dust build up. Ants were an issue just not in the kitchen, but also in the bathrooms.

This is our third time staying at this building, two times in A and once in B. Both sides are equally well equipped, but getting a little cluttered with dishes, pots and pans, etc. Open up some space for vacationer’s kitchen items. Coffee pot is fine, maybe add a Keurig style pot instead of two coffee pots. Outside is getting a little overgrown. There were sticker bushes creeping onto the deck that I had to cut back for the kid’s safety. As I always report, move the outdoor shower onto the deck. It doesn't make sense to rinse off in the sand and now sticker bushes and then walk through the sand to get to the deck. If it was on the deck, the house may have less sand in it. Disappointed that I could not grill under the facility as we used to be able, even though the neighbors didn't follow the rules. Ants were also another issue. You would think they were in the food areas, but no, in my bedroom. They also got into my vehicle. Takeaways: Get rid of the ant problem, cut back the brush and open it up, allow grilling under the building, move the outdoor showers, and put some of our money back into the building, it’s getting dated. Will I stay here again, questionable. I don't feel that the money spent is equal to the vacation experience people are looking for. I would recommend this house for location, but there are better quality houses for the money.

We really enjoyed our stay! There was more than enough room and being right on the beach was wonderful! We were worried about the parking bc our family came into town at different times but we were able to fit 4 regular size cars/SUV’s on one side of the duplex! It was within walking distance of the Garden City pier! There is public beach access right next to the duplex so there were more people on the beach due to that being so close. The police patrolled the area and beach a lot so that made us feel very safe, we really appreciated that especially with 2 small kids! I saw one review that mentioned the band from the pier...they did have a band playing each night that you could hear most in the master bedroom but the pier closed at 11:00 every night so it wasn’t bad at all. We enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to the music each night! The porch and rocking chairs were one of our favorite things about the house! A wonderful place to spend time with your family and enjoy all the beach has to offer!! Thank you for sharing it with us!!

It was wonderful! We loved every moment. The house was amazing, right near town, plenty of parking space. But the best parts were the deck and being right on the beach. It was all great! We even had parking room for the cart we rented.

We've been staying in this same house (both sides) for about 10 years on our annual golf trip. Best house location on the beach. Walk to pier, grocery, restaurants, bars, shops, etc. New deck is nice. Recently received new mattresses for the bunk rooms, but could use new mattresses for all beds.

My husband likes to fish, so this was really convenient, but it might have been TOO close. The house was clean and well maintained, and the view was beautiful. We really enjoyed our time there. The only downside was the WiFi; it was pretty much non-existent. With 8 of us trying to get on, none of us actually were able to stay logged on so we pretty much did NOT have access to WiFi.
- Anonymous from Charlotte, Posted: 08/10/2020
The house and location are great! Unfortunately, My husband went down to our vehicle to bring a bag up that I had left and he forgot to lock the door back, I went back down maybe 2 hours later and someone had broken into the car and stole the gun out of the glove compartment. This was during the day. We reported it to the police, the gun was registered to us. That and the weather kind of put a damper on our week along with a man drown right near us on Friday, however all of this had nothing to do with the house - just a few lessons learned, never leave your car unlocked, don't swim when there is a riptide and make the best of bad weather! The house was great and has a beautiful view.

Vacation was amazing. I have been travelling to N. Myrtle Beach every year for the past 10 years and this was my first time in Garden City. I am in love. We have already planned next year in same house or another with Garden city realty. They were friendly and helpful. Beach beautiful and quiet. Not nearly as crowded as the N. Myrtle area. Location close to everything you need. Town small and friendly. Views from house beautiful and a very very short walk to pier.

We spent Thanksgiving week at the beach house and absolutely loved it. My husband and I loved waking up every morning to the sun rising. We also loved sending our daughter and her cousins out to play in the sand on the beach just steps away from the back door. The location was close to a lot. The kitchen was well equipped with the exception of a few baking dishes. It was Thanksgiving after all. :)
- Jeannette B. from Rogers, Posted: 12/02/2019
Wonderful stay. Property was very clean with enough room for all 11 of us to spread out. Great view of the ocean and pier with easy access to the beach. Property management was quick to address any concerns we had, which were few. Music from the pier was really only noticeable if sleeping in the room with the great view of the ocean and then only on Friday night. Plenty to do within walking distance. Only minor drawback for us were the stairs but that seems typical for oceanfront properties. Overall it was a great stay and would stay again.

The house was clean and worked great for our family. We really enjoyed being right on the beach. The only complaint we had was that the home sleeps 16 and there were not enough cutlery and cups for that many people. I ended up going to buy some so we had enough for one meal. Would def recommend this place!

We stayed in The Wind Side B for a week in August and had a great time. The house itself was perfectly nice with very comfortable beds. It was clean and everything worked perfectly. We did not have reason to use the kitchen for cooking but found all the appliances and equipment necessary. Our main interests were cleanliness (it was), convenience to the beach (was awesome), working TV's (they worked perfect with a good cable line-up too) and great beds (as mentioned the beds were super comfortable). The location was perfect to get to the water and to the pier and the location also offered easy access down Atlantic Avenue to Hwy 17 and so many of the golf courses and other activities. I would not hesitate to stay there again and will most likely try to secure the house for another visit next summer. I look forward to returning.

Very nice vacation rental right on the ocean. I did not realize there would be so many steps getting to the living space. We had a toddler with us and it was difficult to get him up and down the steep and abundant steps that had no backing on them. Also enjoyed the pier with the exception of the nightly band that played every night we were in residence. The band only took a break at 10pm then started back playing again. For our situation, we would look for a property with less steep steps as well as something further from the pier due to the nightly band. The proximity to the ocean was unsurpassed and the view was great! I did ask for a call back after hours because of the hurricane evacuations that were mandatory due to Mathew and did not get a call back from management. However, the answering service person did say they get hurricane evacuations all the time and not to worry. I wish someone would have called me back since we are unfamiliar with evacuations and gas stations running out of gas. But this was a chance we took with booking in October! The water and the weather were beautiful right up to our last day. We also chartered a boat from the Crazy Sister Marina and caught enough fish for dinner and had a great time on the water.

I rented the whole house (both sides A and B). The location is awesome and within a 1-2 minute walk to the pier, restaurants, bars, shops, grocery, etc. The house and the furnishings are not the most up to date on the beach, but they aren't bad either. For the price you can't beat it. I've stayed in this same house three years in a row now, if that says anything.
- Timothy M. from Broadlands, Posted: 05/03/2016
I rented both sides of this house for a 4 couple vacation for the week before our annual golf trip. Perfect location right below Atlantic Ave. Against the Wind B was painted just before our stay and the fumes bothered 1 in our party but I personally stayed in that side with no issues. House was clean with everything you can need to stay. If playing southern courses again would stay again

Just before arriving, the Realty called saying half of our unit had electrical problems. However, they gave us the house next door which was more space for less money and perfect for our family group of 17--great accommodations in a great location. We'd like to come again. Thanks so much.

- Anonymous from Charlotte, Posted: 12/03/2014
This place is a lot of space for a little $. I would mention that it was a bit loud on the weekends and you could tell it was well used. The carpet probably needs replaced. It was a perfect spot for us however with a great view. We saw a lot of wildlife including many sand sharks that the local fishermen like to feed off the pier.

We had a wonderful time. The sunrises in the morning were amazing. The view of the pier and the sounds from the pier at night were great. We saw sharks swimming at the end of the pier and watched dolphins swimming just off the shore! The only complaint that I do have is that many of the people that vacationed with us (including children) got splinters from walking on the deck and walkway to the beach. Other than that we had a great time! Thank you so much.
- Marisa S. from Madison Heights, Posted: 05/28/2014
Thank you for taking your time to fill out our review. We do apologize, this is the first complaint that we have received regarding any splinters on the deck and walkway. The owner has been notified and is going to take care of this. We hope to see you again at Against the Wind B.

We had a wonderful vacation with some of our family at this beach house. The weather was great, food was wnderful and the water was warm...can't ask for any more than that. Hope to go again next year. We have rented several years from Garden City Realty and will do it again.

- Trisha M. from Minneapolis, Posted: 08/05/2013
The weather sucked! (20 mph winds!). Carpet needed cleaning. Under cabinet lights would be nice. One-drain kitchen sink without sprayer made dish washing difficult. Ice maker was extremely slow. This is why a perfect score was not given. BUT, we are thinking about renting both sides in September.
- Anonymous from Columbia, Posted: 05/07/2013
Thank you for taking your time and completing the review for Against the Wind B. The carpets for both sides of the home were cleaned in March and will be steam cleaned again at the end of May. Thank you for choosing Against the Wind and Garden City Realty. We look forward to your return in September.
- Garden City Realty staff
The house is beautiful - We would definitely come back again! Rooms are great - master is the best - the view with those large windows is just awesome!. The ice maker was still broken, so bring your own ice. The only thing I would mention, if you're close to maxing out space, the downstairs pull out, is not really a queen. It's a slide out but we couldn't fit 2 on it. The teenagers adapted easily with a sleeping bag though. It's a perfect location and stuff to do right in town for our guests aging 8-70. The pier was nice to walk down - snacks/bar and minimal amount to fish all day - they cover your license. Overall, I would definitely recommend!!
- Debra M. from Normal, Posted: 04/01/2013
Thank you for your response to your visit to Garden City Realty and to Against the Wind side B. In response to your feedback I would like you to know you can rent both sides of this home doubling the amount of bedrooms from 5 to 10 hopefully making adequate space for your family. Also regarding the broken icemaker, we have our own maintenance and housekeeping department that makes house calls for your convenience if you ever have issues.

We wanted to include the whole family this year. We had 13 adults and 10 children so we needed lots of room and plenty of beds. This whole duplex was ideal. We had a great time right on the beach. Thank you.
- Carl C. from Murfreesboro, Posted: 10/15/2011
A lot of steps to climb for us older folks, but that would be the same at any of the beach rentals. We all enjoyed our time there very much. Although it was cut short by Hurricane Irene. We left a day early. A great place.
- Anonymous from Salem, Posted: 09/13/2011
The house was wonderful, well equipped with beautiful view on the beach. Enough room for our group. I only have one negative point: not enough cauldron and/or too old cauldron. It was impossible to cook eggs and other meals in these conditions. No cutting
board, no sharp knife... very complicated to cut our vegetables. In addition, the broom was stuck with tape and we have to buy a new one which is not acceptable when you pay 3800k for a week. But overall, If you rectify this situation, I would recommend this
location. Thanks!
- Marie Josee A. from Contrecoeur, Posted: 08/15/2011
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this review. The owner has now replaced all of the pots and pans, added a cutting board, and a brand new cutlery set. The owner was unaware that the broom had been broken and has now been replaced. We hope to see you in the future!

Rented the entire house for a large family vacation in July 2011.
PROS: Within walking distance to pier and shops--middle school kids especially loved this. Doorway in living room connected both sides making it a 10 bedroom house with two kitchens, two living areas, etc.--huge plus. One side was usually kid oriented and the other more adult oriented. Nice to be together, but not exactly, avoiding renting two beach houses. Large kitchen tables and kids loved seats around bar that raised and lowered. WiFi was great for those uploading pictures to Facebook and adults who had to check in with work.
CONS: Close to pier so beach was more crowded, more traffic and music from pier could be heard (good or bad depending on band/karaoke singer). One bunk room on each side (pink walls/zebra bedding) did not have a closet and lacked a mirror. Some dresser drawers in need of repair. Sleeper sofa is not actually a mattress--more like a trundle that pulled out to couch level made of same material as couch. Variable kitchen supplies--usually searched from one side to the other to find what we needed and over the years have learned to bring a lot of our own. Rusted patio furniture and debris under and around house.
- Anonymous from Columbus, Posted: 08/02/2011
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this review. The owner left the patio chairs under the house for people to use at the beach, or just to use at the front of the house to relax and watch the people walk by. Because they started to rust, the owner removed them. There has been a mirror added to each of the pink rooms. There will be new pots and pans, cutting board, cutlery set, stainless steel coffee maker, mixer, toaster, and electric can opener in the kitchen this year. We hope that you come back to see us soon!
