Abernethy Cottage

We love this rustic cottage. It's a cozy, convenient, and happy place to stay with your family. Already making plans to go back 2x next year! Also loved that we got some free umbrellas and chairs from Garden City Realty. Would highly suggest The Quay restaurant just minutes down the road from the house at the marina.

We came with our Daughter, Son-in-law and grandchildren. We’ve stayed in this house three times. We stay here because it has a wheelchair ramp. The house is clean, close to the beach and a great place to stay. There are plenty of bed space. We always cook and I love the kitchen. We have so many great memories that have been made here.

We love this home!
It's so comfortable and family friendly. Love the porch, kitchen, all the amenities and the luxury beds. It is now our go to beach house. Close to anything you need. Of course the beach but also groceries, golf, restaurants, arcades and ice cream.

We love the location. Carpet it pretty old and dirty, but other than that, a good place to stay. We have stayed several times before with no issues, but this year their are misquitos flying around the vents under house and we did see a roach in living room.

We've rented Abernethy several times now, and it's a nice, quaint cottage. The house is clean and the location is great. Unfortunately, it was well after 5pm on Saturday before we were allow to check in, and the cleaning inspector arrived a few hours later. Overall, it was nice.

We enjoyed our stay. Overall good experience. Living room furniture is very old and worn out, does not sit well. Overhead Light in one bed room didn't work, chain had been pulled out so had to rely on lamps.

This home is exactly like the pictures show, it is a bit dated with wood paneling and carpets throughout - some minor issues - but all in all a great little cottage for the price - EXCELLENT location across from the Beach Access and about a block from the Pier.

We had a lovely time here the week before Labor Day. The location is great, right across the street from a Public Access. I walked down most days to watch the sunrise. The pier is quite close as well. The cottage is very nice and much bigger than I thought at first. The front deck was a great place to relax and watch the beach goers. It is second row, but we could still see the ocean. The cottage was clean and well maintained. We plan to go back sometime soon and bring our kids and grandkids.

We have twice rented Abernethy Cottage and for the most part enjoyed our stay. The location is great and the house is clean. The refrigerator/freezer, however, stopped working during our stay. Some of the furniture, appliances, and decor definitely need updating.

We really enjoyed our stay at Abernethy Cottage. The bungalow was reminiscent of beach houses of the past. The home was extremely clean and well taken care of. The location was perfect. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the waves come in on the beach. The only suggestion I’d offer is to invest in some new living room furniture. The material on the couch and loveseat was dingy and appeared soiled. We really didn’t want to sit on them.
The staff at Garden City Reality was extremely helpful and great to deal with. We have rented a number of beach houses from them in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

old school beach house just across the street from the ocean. Huge living room/dining room opens to the kitchen to make one big room perfect for family time. Loved the location and so close to the ocean, pier and everything in Garden City. Highly recommend

Very well maintained beach house with great layout. Loved the deck and the view! The beach access is incredibly close. Walk to the pier, shops, and arcade. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful vacation and stay in this home. The only thing that was the problem was the air. It didn't get cool like it usually does and it kept going up. Other than that it was a great vacation. When a bad storm came threw the air didn't blow at all and we had to figure out how to make it blow cool air again.

The location and porch are fantastic. I was especially thrilled with the wheelchair ramp in back that made things so much easier for my 86 year old mother. We loved the new porch and the great view of the ocean through the row of houses. PERFECT Location.

We had a wonderful time in Garden City. The location to the pier and ocean was perfect. There was plenty of seating inside, however, I would say that the furniture was outdated. A few of the kitchen appliances were also outdated.

I say "our" beach house because our 2 families have been staying at the Abernathy cottage for about the last 20 years. Our parents and grandparents used to bring my cousin and I when we were small and now that we have families of our own we try to get together once a year and return with our children. I am in SC and she is in IN. There is no other place we would rent. It's walking distance to the pier and you get to enjoy the beach view from the front porch. We arrived this year to see a new deck on the front and we loved it!!

The cottage was very well equipped.The mattresses were wonderful.The location is perfect for a second row house. The view from the front windows is good.The living room furniture needs to be replaced or covered and the railing on the porch needs to be secured (it is hazardous).I had trouble contacting GCR after hours when we had to leave early and had been told to call anytime, that someone would be manning the phone 24/7. I love the older houses that don't have so many steps!

The house was very nice and felt like an old time beach house. Our only issues were the front door, which was very heavy and hard to keep open without propping something heavy against it. Also, the living room furniture needed to be cleaned and there were tiny burrs in the carpeting that would stick into socks or feet when walking through the house.

My family has been staying at the Abernethy for years, it's where my parents took me and I am now taking my children. It is a great location close to the pier and has a great ocean view. It could use some updated living room furniture and the master bed could really use a new mattress.

The Abernathy is an old-fashioned beach cottage that evokes memories of long-ago family vacations. The kitchen is very well appointed and that is important because our family rarely dines out at the beach. The location is perfect - it's close enough to the pier to walk but far enough that you are not bothered by the noise, and it's only one house away from the ocean. Only two complaints - the king mattresses were really just two singles and uncomfortable, and there were few up-to-date technological amenities. However, for the price, you cannot beat a stay at the Abernathy Cottage.

We were very pleased with out stay at the Abernethy Cottage in Garden City. This is the third time we have stayed at this cottage and we really love it. the location is just perfect for access to other areas at the beach and it is very close to the Garden City Pier and Arcade for the kids.
