Picnics can be held anywhere; inside, outside, in the grass, on the beach, in a park or in your car. Since we live at the beach, I’m going to share my top items for a beach picnic, that way you know how to prepare! Beach picnics are fun for everyone, but how do you know what to bring? I think this really depends on the purpose of your picnic, as well as who will be joining you. You might be headed out to the beach for the day and just need a few snacks or you could be planning a romantic date with a loved one. Whatever the purpose there are a few items you don’t want to be without.
I have had quite a few beach picnics in my life, mostly quick sandwiches, snacks, and drinks; but one beach picnic I was invited to stands out to me. When I first started dating my husband he invited me on an outing and told me to wear some comfy shoes. I was curious about where we would wind up!? After a few days of waiting, and wondering, I found myself walking along the beach and hiking trails at Huntington Beach State Park.
Side Note: If you haven’t visited this gem along the Grand Strand, I suggest looking into it. There are many different picnic areas, beach access points, trails to walk, camping areas and so much more! It is also home to Atalaya Castle.
Back to my afternoon, after we wandered around the park for a couple of hours, we found a picnic table to set up our lunch. He pulled out a whole set-up! First, a tablecloth laid out on the table. Next, a picnic basket, filled with goodies of sliced lunchmeat and cheese, along with grapes and bread. Finally, a couple drinks for us both.
Life is beautiful and is meant to be lived fully. Take some time this year and get outside! Enjoy the outdoors and explore somewhere new, or old, with your friends and family. These are my top items to bring with you on your beach picnic:
- Family or friends
- Favorite foods that are easy to eat
- Drinks
- Silverware
- Napkins or baby wipes
- Blanket or towel to sit on
- Sunscreen and an umbrella
- Bug spray
- Trash bag for the remnants (Take care of our beaches, please!)
Once you’ve cleaned up from your picnic, it’s time to get back to your beach day! That may mean splashing back into the water, getting out the Frisbee or relaxing in a chair with a good book. However you enjoy the beach, I hope it brings you happiness.
