If you’re in the Litchfield area and are in the mood for a pub-like experience with lowcountry flair, be sure to check out Quigley’s Pint & Plate, located in the Mingo Center, off Hwy 17 behind the Piggly Wiggly. Reminiscent of a British pub, with lots of wood and clean, modern lines, Quigley’s is a family friendly restaurant that boasts a great selection of beer made by New South Brewery, a Myrtle Beach based beer company. They have seasonal beers, India Pale Ales, Lagers and both White Ale, a great belgian wheat with a citrus hint, as well as Nut Brown Ale, a darker richer pint with plenty of fragrance. If you’re a beer drinker, or are just in the mood for something a little different, this is a great place to kick back. There are plenty of pub tables and stools at the spacious bar, as well as a dining room and outdoor tables for those really nice Grand Strand days. Flat screens adorn every wall, so you can catch the game in style.
A pub wouldn’t be complete without a memorable menu, and Quigley’s delivers. They have a great Happy Hour from 4-7pm, where you can sample such fare as amazing Fried Pickles, a nice spicy Black Eyed Pea Hummus, and Lowcountry rolls- a great local take on sushi where stone ground grits, shrimp and sausage are encased in seaweed, tempura battered and fried and served with spicy mustard and BBQ sauce. These are all great for sharing, as is the Plowman’s Platter, where meat, cheese, pickled okra, apples, and pretzels are served with spicy ale mustard.
Both lunch and dinner menus boast a nice variety, including the aptly named “Breakfast,” the intriguing “Chicken and Waffles,” and a host of salads, sandwiches and favorites like Shrimp & Grits, Meatloaf and some of the tastiest Mahi Tacos I’ve ever had. And of course, the standard pub fare like Fish & Chips, Shepard’s Pie and Fries and Gravy are on there as well, and very much worth trying.
They feature Growlers to Go on Wednesdays, where you get a free Growler (a half gallon stone jug) and $5 dollar beer refills all day, and they also have Trivia on Tuesdays where you can play for free gift cards, as well as Children Eat Free on Thursdays. See you at Quigley’s!
