The Boardwalk of Myrtle Beach

If you haven’t been to the new boardwalk in the heart of Myrtle Beach , it is a great place to visit! Located in front of the lot that the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion and Amusement park used to sit on, the boardwalk runs the oceanfront, over a mile long in length. The Pavilion may not be there, but the sense of nostalgia walking along where Peaches Corner, penny arcades, old time photos, airbrushed beach memorabilia and Ripley’s Believe It or Not is great. Families and visitors of all ages can stroll along the breezy ocean, get some ice cream, take a chance at some of the classic arcade games and get a sense of what Myrtle Beach is all about.

The boardwalk and surrounding area has become the hub for various Myrtle Beach events and festivals. Of course there is the legendary Sun Fun festival during the first few weeks of June, which really kicks off the summer in Myrtle Beach with its parades, sand sculpting contests and other great activities. But plenty of other holidays are being organized around the boardwalk and ocean boulevard as well. I had the pleasure of attending the St. Patrick’s Day celebration March 12^th, and it was really top notch. There was face painting, leprechauns on stilts (oxymoron, I know), vendors selling crazy novelties in every shade of green imaginable, lots of great live music and thousands of people enjoying the boardwalk and the camaraderie. Another big development is the SkyWheel, a huge ferris wheel overlooking the ocean as well as the entire city. Visitors will be able to climb aboard the roomy gondolas and catch a bird’s eye view of some of the extraordinary sights Myrtle Beach has to offer. Click on the link below for more information!
