Originally from Florence, SC, Don is a proud graduate of Francis Marion University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and has collaterals in Geography, Political Science, and Military Science.
Don's professional journey is a testament to his competence and expertise. He and a friend were the first two individuals at FMU to receive a commission through the ROTC program into the United States Army. Don proudly served his country as a Field Artillery Officer from 1979 to 1984. Later, he excelled in the automotive industry from 1984 to 1988, holding various positions from salesman to sales manager.
Driven by the high standards of morality and ethics expected of a REALTOR , Don and his father founded Cox Real Estate Company in 1988. Don took over as Broker in Charge in 1996 and successfully led Cox Real Estate until 2010. He then worked as an agent with Exit Realty and Wiechert Realty until late 2016. In August 2017, Don joined Lincoln College of Technology, Nashville Auto Diesel College, as a High School Admissions Representative, helping young individuals pursue financial independence through skilled trades. Don retired on April 15, 2024, and after careful consideration and prayer, he reached out to trusted friend and mentor, Bobby Streett. Doing so led to an invitation to join Streett Property Consultants and become an agent with Garden City Realty.
Don has been happily married for an impressive 37 years. He and his wife have two wonderful children and two grandchildren. Their daughter has blessed them with a grandson, while their son has blessed them with a granddaughter.
Since 1963, Don has been an integral part of Calvery Baptist Church, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to community service. He has contributed to multiple committees, mentored the youth, assisted the elderly and homebound, taught Sunday school, and served on the Deacon board.
Don has proudly been a member of several esteemed social and fraternal organizations, including the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, serving as Past Master of the Hampton Masonic Lodge, being a part of the Omar Shrine Temple, the Omar Daredevils Charleston Court 113 ROJ, and the Breakfast Optimist club.
He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, cheering for his college sports team—Go Gamecocks, making a difference in the lives of the youth and elderly, and traveling to the beach with his wife.
