I belong to a local quilt guild, Coastal Carolina Quilters. It is one of several in our area. We meet once a month on the 3rd Monday at Ocean Side Village. We have 150 members and probably half of these members are Snow Birds.
We have a lot of fun and we do a lot for charity. We sometimes have special speakers, very often we have demonstrations of techniques members share. We often have workshops when we bring our sewing machines, cutting boards and other quilting supplies and we make quilts for various charities. We also do Show and Tell and believe me, we have some very talented people in our area.
We have covered dish luncheons at times. We are currently looking forward to “Meet the Quilter’s” which is on February 10th this year. Quilter’s from all of the North and South Carolina area meet for a fun time of sharing ideas, good food and always a great program.
We have four fantastic quilt shops in our area where you can buy beautiful fabrics, notions and take classes to broaden your skills.
The last weekend in February is always the annual Horry County Museum Quilt Gala. This is held at Ocean Lakes Campground. The dates this year are Friday and Saturday February 25th and 26th. It is open to the public with a $5.00 admission charge. You can vote on your favorite items in each category and awards will be given to the owners of the many quilts of all sizes and wearable items. Several vendors will be at this Gala and I promise you will have a great time. You might even win one of the many door prizes.
If you are interested in quilting you are welcome to visit our local shops and guilds.
